The mission of St. John Bosco Schools is to support parents in their God-given role as the primary educators of their children by cultivating the whole person – mind, body, and soul – uniting spiritual life with work, study, and play. We believe that a rigorous, faith-based education and vibrant Catholic culture should be within reach of all parents who seek this formation for their children.
Run by a lay Board of Governors, advised by a Catholic priest, and supported by the generosity of many donors who share the vision, St. John Bosco School offers the only classical liberal arts curriculum for Pre-K through eighth grade students in the Rochester area. Our approach is part of a small but growing revitalization of education based on a time-tested, authentically Catholic model of teaching and learning.
From its inception in 2008, St. John Bosco School has focused on three pillars:
Education is integral to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News. First and foremost, every Catholic educational institution is a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth. … More and more people -- parents in particular -- recognize the need for excellence in the human formation of their children. ~ Pope Benedict XVI
At the center of our efforts is the Catholic understanding that each human person is created out of Divine love in the image and likeness of God. We are made to know, love, and serve Him in this world and to be happy with Him in the next. Catholic classical education unites faith, reason, and love to this end. At SJBS, the content of our curriculum and the methods of instruction are designed to provide formation in wisdom and virtue. We help children discover the unity of truth, goodness, and beauty, which are reflections of God. Thus, true education in the fullest sense goes far beyond the acquisition of skills or preparation for a career. Our students, as well as our faculty and staff, strive toward excellence and service to others, in gratitude for our many blessings.
