A long-standing and well-founded tradition at many college preparatory schools is the requirement that each student complete a summer reading assignment.  Reading not only stimulates the mind, but also helps students develop the tools of learning they will need as they progress through the St. John Bosco Schools curriculum.  Most importantly, reading good stories provides students with an enjoyable and wholesome way to spend their time.  One hour per day of summer reading is good practice.

Instructions for Students:

• Fairy Tales: All students are required to read (or have read to them) the assigned Fairy Tales. 
       
• Saint Biographies: All students are required to read the assigned Saint biography for their respective grade level.  The first book listed under each grade is the assigned Saint biography.
    
• Other Reading: In addition to the Fairy Tales and the Saint biographies, students are required to select one (1) book from the summer reading list selected for each grade.  The assignments differ slightly depending on the grade level of the student.
       
  
  • Parents of rising Kindergarten students, please read Peter Rabbit stories aloud to your students and discuss questions after the story (available on our "Book Reports" web-page).
       
  • Parents of rising 1st and 2nd Grade students, respectively, please read the book(s) aloud to your students where necessary and complete the appropriate book report form (available on our "Book Reports" web-page).  The book report will be due the first week of school.
          
  • All other grades, students are to read the book and complete the report assignments for their respective grade levels (available on our "Book Reports" web-page).  The book report will be due the first week of school.
